The story of the Good Samaritan is widely known, even among those outside the Church. And yet, despite its popularity and the esteem in which it is held, the emphasis of this story is, sadly, often misplaced. The purpose of this parable is not primarily to encourage neighborliness or humanitarian efforts, but rather to impress upon us the weight of the Law of God, with the hope that our eyes would turn to the One who has called all who are weary and heavy laden and has promised rest—namely, the Lord Jesus Christ.
