In this passage, the Apostle John teaches us that walking in the light is far more than adhering to a set of ethical standards, though it certainly includes them. It is also impossible apart from the grace of God. Walking in the light denotes living in light of the revelation of the Son of God as the fulfillment of the righteous requirements of the law. Jesus is the one through whom we have fellowship with God and through whom we live in faith, repentance, and obedience each day.
