Affliction is an opportunity for God to shower us with His mercy, prepare us for His service, and sanctify us in His love. Paul experienced great affliction, but he also experienced greater grace through the Savior whose suffering secured our salvation. From the very outset of his letter, Paul summons every believer to praise the God of all comfort and to rest securely in Him.
