After having warned the Galatians of the danger of the false gospel of the circumcision party, in this section, Paul explains that the gospel he preached to them is true and authoritative, because he received it directly, “through a revelation of Jesus Christ.” But even though his message is superior, Paul does not consider himself superior to anyone. Given his former life, he knows that it is only by grace that he has been called and set apart to preach this gospel. We too should have confidence in the true gospel we share with others while remaining humbly aware that we are not worthy in ourselves to share it.
