Stand Firm in order to Run Well

Series: Galatians

Rev. John RohrmanOctober 20, 2024Passage: Galatians 5:1-12

When runners are doing things that will lead to injury or disqualification, the solution is not to run harder or faster. Instead, they must stop, recognize what they are doing wrong, and fix it, in order to begin running well again. In this week’s passage, Paul warns the Galatians that, although they had been “running well” spiritually, if they relied on circumcision as part of their justification, they would bring spiritual harm or even disqualification upon themselves. They needed to “stand firm” in the grace of Christ before they could begin running well again—a message we often need to hear as well.
