R.C. Sproul once said that everyone is a theologian, the only questions is whether our theology (our understanding of God) is biblical or not. In the same way, everyone has mentors. The only question is whether our mentors lead us toward Christ or away from Him. Godly mentors lead us to the Savior and eternal life, while worldly mentors lead us further into ourselves and death. We must choose our mentors carefully, prayerfully, and deliberately if we are to grow in the grace of the Savior who gave Himself for us.
