In the midst of condemning false teachers, Paul paused to confess the depth of his own sin and the height of Christ’s mercy. His was no hypocritical faith but one that perpetually depended on the righteousness of the Savior who died for him. Such a confession resulted in glory being given to God, humility being granted to Paul, and testimony being offered to a watching world. The public profession of our need for Jesus’ grace marks not only the beginning, but the entirety, of the Christian life and is the starting point for all fruitful service in the Lord.
