Leadership is key to any group of people, including the church. But when Paul presents the qualifications for the office of elder, he does not list rare gifts, outstanding achievements, or personal magnetism. He focuses primarily on character. Elders are ordinary men saved by an extraordinary Savior who are called to follow Him and help others do the same. By reflecting the likeness of the Chief Shepherd, they draw us all to the only One in whom true life is found, Jesus Christ.
