Deadly feuds, executions, and gathering buzzards do not seem like an encouraging way to ring in the New Year. But 2 Samuel 21 proclaims the blood atonement that turns away the wrath of God so that sinners like us may be forgiven and receive new life in Jesus Christ. Such news provides far more than a vague hope for the New Year. It provides the absolute assurance of God’s covenantal grace to us in our Savior no matter what the year ahead may bring.
