Mephibosheth was a poor, crippled outcast with nothing to offer David except a lineage that made him a direct threat to his throne. Yet David sought him out, extended him mercy, and treated him like a son at his table because of the covenantal love he had for his father, Jonathan. David anticipated the far greater King who would show far greater mercy to far greater outcasts because of a far greater covenant so that through His work on the cross we might feast at His table as sons and daughters of God.
