Even though Absalom had murdered his brother, usurped the throne, and tried to kill David, his death filled David with inconsolable sorrow. David wept and wept, wishing he could have died in Absalom’s place, but was powerless to avoid the wages of his own sin with Bathsheba. But another Man of Sorrows would one day come from David’s line who would be both willing and able to die for those whom He loved. Jesus bore our grief, sorrow, and judgment on the cross so that we might rejoice to be reconciled to God.
